I have never worked on a photography project with anyone more careful, more scrupulous, and more committed to accuracy, fidelity, and quality than Tim Nighswander, lead photographer at IMAGING4ART. I came to understand that achieving faithful imagery of a work of art was not a mechanical process, but one involving a union of technology and creativity at the highest level.

Tim Nighswander began documenting the collection of the Josef and Anni Albers Foundation on film in the 1980s. From 2004 he played an integral role, from initial conception to final execution, in helping us transition from film to a high resolution digital based archive of our works. In addition to researching and making recommendations on the equipment best suited to our needs, he worked collegiality and closely with our small team to structure and maintain a shooting schedule that allowed us to complete the documentation of the more than 5000 pieces in our collection within the budgeted time frame.

The digital archive serves as the Foundation’s resource for images used in books including exhibition catalogues, catalogue raisonnés, scholarly publications as well as a valuable database for research.

I have personally enjoyed working on these projects with Tim since 1989. Graphic designers and publishers with whom we work commend both on the quality of Tim’s images as well as the ease of working with them. The skill sets, level of service and understanding of our needs that IMAGING4ART offers continues to be invaluable to us.

Working with Tim, Diane and the entire team at IMAGING4ART has been nothing short of a pleasure. From planning to execution, we have always held the utmost trust in Tim to collaborate with us to create images that hold up to our Artist’s standards. He puts time in before each shoot to research and study an individual Artist’s work so as to ready himself and increase his sensitivity to their concerns and the parameters of a given object. Once on location, we have always felt he approaches the shoot with such calm and confidence that takes form in pure readiness and presence. Tim’s preparedness is then underscored and reinforced by his technical expertise, which allows him to pre-visualize and photographically capture all parameters of the Artist’s desires. All of this culminates in well documented objects, whose images we can confidently archive, reference and utilize for a myriad of purposes well into the future.

Working with Tim and Diane Nighswander is a great experience. In May 2011, I hired IMAGING4ART to photograph the gallery’s first Donald Judd exhibition, which was one of our most important shows to date, and also contained works that are deceptively challenging to photograph. The shoots with IMAGING4ART were professional and pleasant, and the resulting photographs were easily reproduced in our Donald Judd catalogue. Since then, I continue to enjoy working with Tim and the IMAGING4ART team on documenting our exhibitions.

I have had the pleasure and good fortune to work with Tim and Diane Nighswander for many years with their photography of Old Master paintings in the Samuel H. Kress collection. With every project, Tim understood and addressed each painting’s needs and concerns with a high level of detail, accurately capturing color variations and varying surfaces effects. Tim was able to capture the subtle reflections of punched gold ground paintings with perfection– truly a testament to his conscientiousness and exacting standards. In addition to their consummate professionalism, Tim and Diane are truly a delight to work with: genuine, thoughtful and incredibly accommodating. I look forward to working with them again in the future.

I first hired IMAGING4ART to handle a particularly challenging project. I had a large number of paintings and sculptures that quickly needed to be photographed for a major publication. In addition to requiring images that met the high standards of the publisher, I also found myself in need of physical prints to share with galleries and potential buyers. It was critical that both these digital files and prints accurately reflected the original works.

IMAGING4ART was the only choice for such a project. Having seen Tim’s earlier photographs of works by the same artists in our collection, I felt confident that he would be able to capture the unique palettes and subtle changes in color and brushstrokes. And the fact that his team would provide on-site soft color proofing and printing sealed the deal. I was very impressed at seeing his operation in action, it felt like he had brought a museum-level photography studio to our site. There are many photographers out there these days who show up with only a prosumer DSLR and a set of lights. IMAGING4ART brings much more than that – they bring the equipment, organization and talent that only a high-end photography company can provide.

I have hired Tim and the IMAGING4ART team many times since that initial project and hope to do so again in the future. Rather than resting on their laurels, they are constantly refining their techniques and practices, researching and utilizing the latest in technology in order to represent their clients best in the art world. They provide experience, knowledge, problem-solving and accuracy. They give me peace of mind so that I can spend my time worrying about all the other things that we have to worry about in our field! Thank you Tim, Diane, and the rest of the team!

IMAGING4ART has been providing superior photographic services to the Kress Foundation for several years. Tim Nighswander’s photography is unfailingly excellent, and both he and Diane Nighswander are a delight to work with – efficient, personable and professional. We recommend IMAGING4ART to art museums and other cultural organizations without hesitation.

I’m super proud of how well the exhibition catalogue turned out. Tim’s photos are a crucial part of the book’s beautiful aesthetic and success. . . It is always an absolute pleasure working with you! Thank you for your endless patience and beautiful images.

Tim and Diane were recommended to me after I faced a time-sensitive deadline emergency and needed a photographer on the east coast immediately. Diane responded to my frantic email that same day and within hours was able to fit us in for a 2-day shoot at a private collector’s home later that week in Princeton, New Jersey. I instantly recognized their incredible professionalism and dedication to their patrons. They both asked extremely thoughtful questions to ensure that the job would be done to the highest standards even though I was unable to attend and help direct. The collector was very pleased with their visit to his home and also felt they were very easy to work with.

The final images are better than I could have even imagined and I was already deeply impressed with the work that I saw on their website. I am truly grateful for their work and know that our exhibition will be even better because of their images. I am also very honored that our institution is now among the list of their esteemed customers. I am happy to recommend Tim and Diane whenever I can.

Working with Diane and Tim on a very time-sensitive project to document and photograph an extensive art collection was not only delightful, but professionally and timely completed. No matter the circumstances, they were thoroughly accommodating to last minute requests and changes.

IMAGING4ART created highly detailed digital images of two particularly difficult to photograph paintings for us. Tim and Diane Nighswander are highly professional, and very pleasant and easy to deal with. Tim’s creativity and dedication to the highest quality standards make it easy to recommend IMAGING4ART for any art photography project.

The results are truly magnificent and I am grateful not only for your obvious skills and talent in photography, but for the care that you put into every aspect of the project.
